Challenge Rules
Effective September 1, 2026
Who can enter
HIM cash-prize and grant challenges are skill-based and free to enter. Unless a challenge page says otherwise, entrants must have a HIM Arena account, be at least 18 and the age of majority where they live, and be legally eligible to receive the award. Challenges are void where prohibited. HIM employees and people directly involved in judging may not enter.
How to enter
Follow the submission requirements and deadline on the applicable challenge page. An entry must be the entrant's own work, include the required source and video, disclose important dependencies and limitations, and contain no secrets, malware, private data, or material the entrant cannot lawfully publish. No purchase is necessary, and buying or using more compute does not improve an entry's standing.
Judging
HIM selects winners based on the criteria stated on the challenge page, including technical execution, originality, clarity of the demonstration, and reproducibility where relevant. HIM may verify an entry, request reasonable supporting material, resolve ties, and disqualify work that is late, unsafe, deceptive, infringing, manipulated, or not reproducible. Simulation video is not proof of hardware performance or safety.
Awards
Award amounts and any hardware opportunity are described on the applicable challenge page. Potential winners may need to confirm identity and eligibility and provide tax or payment information. Winners are responsible for taxes. A hardware test or robot grant is subject to separate safety, compatibility, scheduling, and compliance review. HIM may substitute an award of equal or greater value if the stated award becomes unavailable.
Administration
HIM may pause, modify, or cancel a challenge when fraud, security, technical failure, law, or circumstances outside HIM's reasonable control make fair administration impractical. HIM's good-faith decisions on eligibility, judging, and administration are final. The Terms of Service and Privacy Notice also apply.
